Molinological Study: A Research Mission to France

To ensure the restoration of the Pointe-Claire Windmill would be historically accurate, in 2006 the Pointe-Claire Heritage Preservation Society undertook an extensive research mission to France. The findings of this mission form the basis of the “molinological study” that has guided this project ever since. This journey to the heart of French mill-wrighting traditions laid the groundwork for the professional, architect-led restoration we are leading today.

The primary goal was to study the surviving windmills of the French colonies to understand their authentic construction and mechanics. This on-the-ground research provided invaluable insights that will inform the work of the architects and qualified craftsmen leading the restoration, ensuring a historically authentic and professionally executed final product.
